Government ready to negotiate with Taliban anywhere nationwide, says Ghani

KABUL -- President Ashraf Ghani once again called on the Taliban to hold peace talks with the Afghan government as the nation demands peace, Ghani's office said in a statement Wednesday (June 27).

He made his remarks at a gathering of the High Peace Council and Afghanistan's Ulema Council at the Presidential Palace Tuesday (June 26) in Kabul.

The government will negotiate with the Taliban in any part of the country the group chooses, said Ghani.

"Haven't we solved any problem that the Taliban has raised? Let's talk with each other if the issue is the presence of foreign forces [in Afghanistan]," TOLOnews reported, quoting Ghani.

"It is difficult for the countries in the region to make a decision on war, and it is easy for them to make a decision on peace," he added.
