PAKTIA -- Security forces in Paktia Province Thursday (July 12) killed more than 100 Taliban militants in combat, the provincial police said in a statement.
One operation occurred in Ahmad Abad District, killing 55 militants, said the Thursday statement.
Members and commanders of the Taliban's elite Red Unit were among those killed, the statement added.
Separately, Afghan special forces conducted an operation in Zurmat District and killed at least 46 Taliban militants, according to provincial police.
Ayub, a former Taliban shadow district governor also known as Karamat, was among the dead, said officials.
The provincial police released photos of the Taliban casualties. The militants responded hours later, denying the reports.
