KABUL -- Gen. Joseph Votel, commander of US Central Command (CENTCOM), praised Afghans for their desire for lasting peace in the country, according to a Wednesday (July 25) statement from the NATO Resolute Support Mission.
Votel and Gen. John Nicholson, commander of Resolute Support, spoke to reporters in Kabul Monday (July 23).
"The Afghan people and many Taliban grow more ready for peace, as evidenced by peace marches, local and international religious ulema condemnations of the insurgency, broad diplomatic support to the Afghan-owned peace process and of course the [Eid] ceasefire," Votel said.
"We are strongly behind you and your desire for peace," said Nicholson to the Afghan people. "We will achieve the peace that you so richly deserve."
