Afghan special forces free 61 civilians from Taliban prison in Helmand

HELMAND -- Commandos from the 7th Special Operations Kandak Thursday (August 2) freed 61 civilians from a Taliban prison in Helmand Province, the provincial government press office said in a statement.

The operation took place in the Deh Baba Kariz area of Kajaki District late at night, said the Friday (August 3) statement.

The freed civilians include children and elderly men, it added.

The commandos killed at least two Taliban militants and arrested seven suspects, said officials.

In May, security forces freed at least 105 civilians including women from a Taliban prison in the same district.
