HELMAND -- Afghan commandos from the 7th Special Operations Kandak (battalion) have freed at least 10 captives from a Taliban prison in Helmand Province, the provincial government press office said in a statement Wednesday (August 8).
The operation took place Tuesday (August 7) in Musa Qala District.
Six civilians and four police officers were among those held by the Taliban, the statement said.
On August 2, Afghan commandos freed 61 civilians, including children and elderly men, from a Taliban prison in Kajaki District.
Is a peace deal between the Afghan government and the Taliban possible before the presidential election in April?
