10 Taliban militants killed by own car bomb in Faryab

MAZAR-E-SHARIF -- A premature car bomb explosion killed at least 15 Afghans, including 10 Taliban militants, in Pashtun Kot District, Faryab Province, the 209th Shaheen Corps of the Afghan National Army said in a statement Thursday (October 11).

The blast occurred in Khwaja Namosi Bazaar as the militants drove a vehicle packed with explosives that they intended to use in Maimana, either against Afghan forces or against a campaign rally, said the statement. It did not give the date of the blast.

The dead included at least five civilian employees at the bazaar.

The Taliban did not immediately comment.
