Taliban deputy shadow governor for Herat succumbs to wounds

HERAT -- Taliban's deputy shadow governor for Herat Province, Manan Lewanay, died of wounds he sustained during an operation by Afghan forces in Herat, the Interior Ministry reported in a statement Sunday (October 14).

Afghan police injured Lewanay during an operation a few days ago in Rezak area, Oba District, but he died Sunday, said the statement.

He was involved in terrorist attacks in Pashtun Zarghun and Oba districts.

The Taliban did not immediately comment.
