KABUL -- A suicide bomber targeting the headquarters of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) Monday (October 29) killed at least one person and wounded six others, officials said.

One police officer was killed when the militant, who was on foot, blew himself up near a vehicle carrying IEC employees as it entered the base at about 8am, according to AFP.

Four election workers and two police officers were injured.

"Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) claimed responsibility.

Meanwhile, Afghans flocked to the polling booths Saturday (October 27) in Kandahar Province in large numbers to vote in the parliamentary election after their province delayed the balloting by one week.
