KABUL -- Gen. Scott Miller, commander of the NATO-led Resolute Support Mission, said Tuesday (October 30) that "the Taliban realises that they cannot win the war militarily".
Miller made his remarks during an interview with NBC News published Wednesday (October 31).
The solution in Afghanistan will be political, not military, said Miller.
"My assessment is the Taliban also realises they cannot win militarily," he said. "So if you realise you can't win militarily at some point ... people start asking why. So you do not necessarily wait us out, but I think now is the time to start working through the political piece of this conflict."
"We are more in an offensive mindset and don't wait for the Taliban to come and hit [us]," he added.
Is a peace deal between the Afghan government and the Taliban possible before the presidential election in April?
