Afghan soldier arrested after joining the Taliban

MAZAR-E-SHARIF -- Afghan forces arrested a former member of the Afghan National Army (ANA) in Maimana, capital of Faryab Province, on suspicion of his ties with the Taliban militants, the 209th Shaheen Corps of the Afghan National Army said in a statement Sunday (December 2).

The suspect, identified as Mir Ahmad, who is originally from Qaisar District, Faryab Province, joined the Taliban in Helmand Province three years ago, said the statement.

Afghan forces arrested him shortly after he returned to Maimana Saturday morning (December 1), officials said.
