Faryab operations kill 7 Taliban militants

MAZAR-E-SHARIF -- Afghan forces killed at least seven Taliban fighters, including two local commanders, during separate military operations in Faryab Province, the 209th Shaheen Corps of the Afghan National Army said in a statement Wednesday (December 5).

During the operations Tuesday (December 4) in Andkhoy and Qarghan districts, the troops killed a local Taliban commander, identified as Mestari Mohammad, along with his four fighters, said the statement.

At least seven other Taliban militants, including Qari Taji Dayee, the group's shadow governor for Andkhoy District, were severely wounded.

Separately, Afghan commandos killed another Taliban commander, known as Qari Hamidullah, along with one of his comrades, during an operation Tuesday in Garziwan District. At least three other militants were wounded, according to the statement.

The Taliban did not immediately comment.
