MAZAR-E-SHARIF -- A premature explosion killed at least four Taliban militants and wounded two others in Faryab Province, the 209th Shaheen Corps of the Afghan National Army said in a statement Tuesday (December 18).

The incident took place Monday night (December 17) in Shirin Tagab District as militants were preparing to plant a bomb on the district's highway, said the statement.

Taliban militants often use improvised explosive devices (IEDs) against Afghan and foreign forces. However, the majority of such explosions kill civilians. In some cases, the Taliban militants are themselves blown up in premature blasts.
