KABUL -- National Directorate of Security (NDS) special forces arrested the Taliban shadow governor for Nahr-e-Shahi District, Balkh Province, the NDS said in a statement Thursday (January 3).
Officials identified him as Ghaibullah, whom the Taliban appointed five months ago, said the statement. It gave no further details on his full name or on the timing of his arrest.
Separately, the NDS arrested a Taliban spy within the ranks of Afghan Local Police (ALP) in Chamtal District, said the same statement.
The suspect, identified as Ghazi Mohammad, planned to assassinate an ALP commander in the district and to help the Taliban take over a security post, said officials.
The detainees confessed to their crimes, the statement said.
