Salaam Times

HELMAND -- Afghan special forces freed 38 captives from a Taliban prison in Helmand Province earlier this month, TOLOnews reported Tuesday (January 29), quoting Defence Minister Asadullah Khalid.

Khalid revealed the mass liberation in a speech at his ministry, adding that Afghan special forces carried it out with unspecified aid from allies.

The operation occurred earlier in January in Ab Band District, said Gen. Bismillah Waziri, commander of the Special Operations Corps, who spoke at the same event at the ministry.

The freed prisoners included soldiers, police, civilians and the security guards of a member of parliament, he said.
