KUNAR -- Hundreds of Kunar residents Tuesday (February 19) attended a rally in the provincial capital, Asadabad, urging the Taliban to embrace peace, the press office of the Kunar provincial government said in a statement.
Participants of the rally, organised by the People's Peace Movement from Helmand, called on the Taliban to declare a ceasefire and to negotiate directly with the Afghan government, said the statement.
The People's Peace Movement, also known as the Helmand Peace Convoy, began as a 50-day sit-in in Lashkargah after a deadly bombing there last March. Its members have since travelled throughout Afghanistan to demand peace.
