Afghan commandos free 10 police officers held by Taliban in Balkh

MAZAR-E-SHARIF -- Afghan commandos rescued 10 police officers being held in a Taliban prison in Balkh Province, the 209th Shaheen Corps of the Afghan National Army said in a statement Monday (February 25).

The operation took place in the Alburz area of Chamtal District, said the statement, without providing details on the timing.

Troops killed at least six militants, it said.

Separately, Afghan air strikes killed at least two Taliban militants and wounded three others in the Joy-e-Shur area of the same district, the statement added.
