BADGHIS -- Afghan forces pushed back Taliban militants from Bala Murghab District, Faryab Province, a day after provincial officials said the militants killed at least 10 Afghan soldiers in an attack.

"Clearing operations that started early morning by ANDSF are continuing with full forces. Fresh reinforcements have arrived. The Taliban terrorists are on the run," the Defence Ministry tweeted Friday (April 5).

"Airstrikes have smashed the Taliban positions. ANDSF are in control of the key facilities," the ministry said.

"The Taliban have lost morale and escaping from the battlefields," it added.

In a statement Thursday (April 4), the Defence Ministry said Afghan forces had made a tactical retreat from a number of checkpoints in the district to avoid civilian casualties, according to AFP.
