NDS special forces raid Taliban top commander's hideout in Uruzgan

KABUL -- National Directorate of Security (NDS) special forces raided the hideout of the Taliban's top military commander, Muwlawi Sharafuddin, in Uruzgan Province, said the NDS in a statement Thursday (April 12).

Eighteen militants were killed, the statement said, without disclosing the raid's timing or Sharafuddin's fate.

Troops also confiscated six heavy weapons, seven light weapons, 47 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), five hand grenades, five communication sets, hundreds of rounds of munitions and some other military kits and uniforms in the operation, it added.

The Taliban did not immediately comment.
