FARAH PROVINCE -- A Taliban ambush in Anar Dara District, Farah Province, left at least nine police officers dead, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) reported Thursday (April 25), citing an Afghan official.

The ambush occurred Wednesday (April 24) as a police convoy was proceeding to the site of a roadside bomb to defuse it, said Abdul Samad Salehi, a member of Farah's provincial council, according to RFE/RL.

Other Taliban militants, after the ambush, briefly overran Anar Dara District police headquarters, but reinforcements drove them off, he added, according to the Associated Press.
