KABUL -- Mohammad Umer Daudzai, President Ashraf Ghani's special representative for regional affairs for consensus on peace, called on the Taliban to listen to the recommendations of the nation's continuing consultative Loya Jirga, TOLOnews reported Wednesday (May 1). The jirga ends Thursday (May 2).

About 3,200 delegates from across the country began debating the framework of peace talks with the Taliban Monday (April 29) in Kabul.

"The Taliban should listen to the recommendations of the Peace Jirga delegates," said Daudzai, who chairs the commission responsible for convening the jirga.

"The jirga sets a logical beginning for the peace process," he told reporters, according to AFP. "The people in the jirga will decide and set boundaries and the framework of talks."

Meanwhile, the "sixth round of talks between (the Taliban) and the United States will start in Doha today", Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said Wednesday.

The talks "are occurring", confirmed the US embassy in Kabul.
