KABUL -- National Directorate of Security (NDS) forces, backed by the Afghan army and air force, killed at least 62 members of the Taliban's elite Red Unit in an operation in Maidan Wardak Province, the NDS said in a statement Thursday (May 30).
The operation targeted a number of Taliban hideouts Wednesday (May 29) in Chak District, said the statement.
At least 11 other militants, including the Taliban deputy shadow governor for the province, were wounded, it added.
The Taliban did not immediately comment.
