KABUL -- Afghanistan has extradited a 19-year-old Tajik suspected of belonging to "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS), Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL)'s Tajik service reported Monday (July 29), quoting Tajik authorities.
Shodijon Boyev could become the first Tajik convicted of fighting for ISIS in Afghanistan.
US special forces captured Boyev in Nangarhar Province, and in late June Afghanistan extradited him to Kulyab, Tajikistan, according to RFE/RL's sources.
Boyev went to Russia in 2016 to do construction work and from there journeyed to Turkey, Iran and then Afghanistan, said his father.
Boyev has been wanted in Tajikistan since January 2018, when the Kulyab municipal prosecutor announced he had evidence of Boyev's participation in ISIS.
Separately, Tajik authorities Sunday (July 28) transferred more than 80 Afghan convicts to Afghanistan, RFE/RL reported.
The handover ceremony took place at the Lower Panj border crossing.
The 80 Afghans will serve the remainder of their sentences in Afghanistan.
More than 10 other Afghans, considered especially dangerous, remain in Tajik custody.
