MAZAR-E-SHARIF -- Afghan air and ground forces killed at least 16 Taliban militants and wounded 12 others in the past 24 hours in Balkh Province, the 209th Shaheen Corps of the Afghan National Army said in a statement Thursday (August 29).
The operations took place in Kishindih, Chahar Bolak and Chamtal districts, said the statement.
Afghan forces arrested nine other militants, the statement said, adding that no civilians were harmed.
At least 230 Taliban insurgents, including nine local commanders, have been killed in Balkh in the past two weeks alone, according to the statement.
The Taliban did not immediately comment.
