Afghan operations kill 33 Taliban militants in Ghazni

GHAZNI -- Afghan special forces, backed by air support, killed at least 33 Taliban militants and arrested five others in separate military operations in Ghazni Province, the provincial government said.

Five militants were killed on Wednesday (September 4) after Afghan forces conducted an operation in the Mangor area of Ghazni city, the governor's office said in a statement on Thursday (September 5).

Troops arrested at least five other militants, it added.

Separately, Afghan special forces helped by air support killed 28 Taliban fighters in various operations in Andar, Deh Yak and Qarabagh districts as well as in Ghazni city, the governor's office said on Wednesday.

Afghan troops destroyed a vehicle and two weapon depots belonging to the militants during the operations, it added.

The Taliban did not immediately comment.
