Afghan forces retake 2 districts in Badakhshan from Taliban

BADAKHSHAN -- Afghan National Defence and Security Forces (ANDSF) recaptured a second district from the Taliban in Badakhshan Province in less than a week.

Afghan forces, backed by air support, regained control of Yamgan District from the militants Monday (September 9), the Defence Ministry said in a statement.

The action came after Afghan forces on Saturday (September 7) seized Warduj District, killing at least 100 Taliban militants.

"The Taliban sustained heavy losses, and many of their fighters surrendered to the ANDSF," said the statement.

Operations to fully clear Badakhshan of the Taliban will continue, it added.

The Taliban did not immediately comment.
