Afghan forces kill 36 Taliban fighters in Balkh

MAZAR-E-SHARIF -- Afghan air and ground forces killed at least 36 Taliban militants and wounded 13 others over the past 24 hours in Balkh Province, the 209th Shaheen Corps of the Afghan National Army said in a statement Monday (September 9).

The operations took place in Sholgara and Chamtal districts, said the statement.

No civilians were harmed, but four security personnel were killed, it said.

Meanwhile, four militants were killed by a premature explosion of their own roadside bomb in Boy Timor village of Chamtal District, said the statement.

The Taliban did not immediately comment.
