KABUL -- President Ashraf Ghani once again called on the Taliban to begin peace talks with the Afghan government Wednesday (February 21), TOLOnews reported.
Ghani outlined his vision at the closing session of a two-day consultative meeting on peace.
The meeting took place ahead of the Kabul Process Conference scheduled for next week on Afghan security and political issues. Representatives of 23 nations, the European Union, United Nations and NATO are expected to attend.
"We will give [the Taliban] options to decide; they must think whether they have the intention to surrender to the will of Allah," said Ghani.
"The nation will not allow anyone to create conflict," added Ghani.
"There should be a dignified peace that involves all. When we say dignified, it involves even those who are fighting," said Afghan government Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah.
They must denounce the war, halt relations with terrorist groups and say that "I am coming to join my people" to preserve their dignity, he said.
