Wolesi Jirga rejects government's proposed budget

Staff Report

KABUL -- The Wolesi Jirga, the lower chamber of the Afghan parliament, unanimously rejected the government's proposed budget, Khaama Press reported Wednesday (December 21).

The Meshrano Jirga, the upper chamber, passed the bill in November and forwarded it to the Wolesi Jirga for final approval.

Wolesi Jirga members cited imbalance, injustice and lack of fairness in the budget's allocations.

The Finance Ministry proposed to spend 287 billion AFN (US $4.2 billion) on the ordinary budget and 178 billion AFN (US $2.7 billion) for the development budget.
