BAGHLAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan -- Afghan troops thwarted a plot by militants to carry out a series of terrorist attacks in Balkh Province during the upcoming Nawruz holiday, Khaama Press reported Friday (March 3), quoting security officials in Baghlan Province.

Counter-narcotics forces on a Baghlan Province highway seized some light and heavy weapons meant for Balkh Province, said Baghlan provincial counter-narcotics chief Gen. Zamanuddin Zaman.

The weapons, including four rocket-propelled grenade launchers and 35 AK-47's, were hidden inside a small truck, said Zaman, adding that his forces made one arrest.

The arsenal was intended for terror attacks in Balkh Province during Nawruz festivities, he added.

Nawruz is set to occur on March 20.
