Australia to donate $2 million to develop Afghan agriculture

KABUL -- Australia Wednesday (September 13) agreed to contribute $2 million (137 million AFN) to stimulate agriculture in six Afghan provinces, Afghanistan Times reported.

Officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) and Australian embassy signed the deal Wednesday in Kabul, according to MAIL.

The provinces covered by the agreement are Balkh, Sar-e-Pul, Jawzjan, Faryab, Baghlan and Samangan, said MAIL, adding that the money will be spent within two years.

Farmers in the provinces will learn to perform dry-soil farming.
