WASHINGTON -- The Taliban and "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) share a similar ideology, according to Afghan government Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah, Khaama Press reported Friday (November 17).
Little difference exists between the two terror groups, said Abdullah at a gathering hosted by Voice of America in Washington.
However, the Taliban have a larger presence than does ISIS in the provinces, he added.
Meanwhile, the new US strategy in South Asia delivers a clear anti-terrorism message to the region and to supporters of terror groups, he said.
The Afghan government is optimistic about increased counter-terrorism co-operation between Afghan and foreign forces after the announcement of the strategy, Abdullah said.
