Afghan government approves new security plan for Kabul

KABUL -- The Afghan government approved in principle a new security plan for the nation's capital Sunday (February 4), the Afghan Presidential Palace said in a statement.

The security plan won approval during a meeting of senior defence and security officials chaired by President Ashraf Ghani, the statement said.

It involves bolstering co-ordination among, intelligence gathering by, and capabilities of security forces; properly allocating personnel in key parts of the capital; and implementing reforms, according to the statement.

Top security officials received orders to take practical steps on the plan and to present a report to the public within the next ten days, said the statement.
