KABUL -- Afghan security forces killed at least 60 Taliban fighters, including 11 senior commanders, in Faryab Province, the Interior Ministry said in a statement Tuesday (August 28).

The air and ground operations took place in Ghormach District, said the statement without providing a specific date.

The Taliban's shadow governor for neighbouring Badghis Province, Qari Mohammad Ayoub, also known as Lala, and his deputy Sheikh Karim were among those killed, the statement noted.

Separately, the Ministry of Defence Tuesday tweeted that an Afghan air strike killed Mawlavi Shah Valy, the Taliban's deputy shadow district governor for Ghormach District.
