KABUL -- The National Directorate of Security (NDS) on Monday (August 12) released 35 former Taliban militants from prison as a gesture for peace, Khaama Press reported, citing a statement by the agency.

The NDS released the individuals based on a presidential decree coinciding with Eid ul Adha, said the statement.

"The release of these prisoners is a clear sign of the strong will of the government for peace and end to war," added the statement, according to AFP.

Officials urged the former detainees to refrain from co-operating with the enemies of peace and stability, it said.
