By Dzhumaguly Annayev

ASHGABAT -- The Turkmen government is sending a team of doctors and nurses, equipment and medications to help operate a new maternity ward in Torghundi village, Herat Province, Afghanistan, Vatan radio reported June 4, quoting a June 3 Turkmen cabinet session.

Turkmenistan paid to build the maternity ward as a gesture to its war-torn neighbour. Other Turkmen aid projects in Afghanistan have included a clinic, school, regular truck convoys of humanitarian aid, and exported electricity at favourable rates.
