Turkmenistan hosts discussion on Afghan CBMs

Staff Report

ASHGABAT -- The Turkmen Foreign Ministry September 6 hosted the fourth meeting of regional technical working groups specialising on confidence-building measures (CBMs) in Afghanistan, the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) said in a statement that day. The working groups are part of the Istanbul Process, a platform for co-operation among Afghanistan and neighbouring countries.

The working groups gave the reports of various countries "on their activities and plans for future action regarding infrastructure projects" in Afghanistan, the OSCE said.

Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan have co-chaired the Regional Infrastructure CBM (RI-CBM) technical groups since 2012. The regional CBMs include construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan railway and of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India natural-gas pipeline.
