KABUL -- Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Hezb-e-Islami Afghanistan (HIA) party leader Gulbuddin Hekmatyar September 29 in a video-linked ceremony signed their long-awaited peace agreement, TOLO News reported.
Representatives of the HIA and Afghan High Peace Council (HPC) first signed the agreement last week. Hekmatyar and Ghani signed it separately.
Ghani called the signing "a historic day".
Hekmatyar joined Ghani virtually through a live video link and congratulated those who worked to nail down the agreement. Hekmatyar urged militant groups to join the peace process.
