Jawzjan women take up arms against militants

Staff Report

JAWZJAN, Afghanistan --Women in Jawzjan Province recently took up arms against militants attacking their province, officials said November 1, according to TOLO News.

About 15 women in Darzab District recently joined an anti-militant unit, provincial governor's spokesman Mohammad Reza Ghafoori said.

The women want to avenge relatives whom insurgents killed, Darzab District Governor Ramatullah Hashar said.

A number of women in Sheberghan, the capital of Jawzjan, praised the move, saying that women are ready to defend their country.

Security forces should protect the family members of women who battle militants, Shahla, a resident of Sherberghan, said.
