Helmand residents vow to battle the Taliban

Staff Report

LASHKARGAH, Afghanistan -- About 500 residents of various Helmand provincial districts recently vowed to battle the Taliban and support the Afghan security forces, TOLO News reported Tuesday (December 27).

The residents are weary of Taliban oppression and feel compelled to take up arms against the militants, members of the newly formed anti-Taliban uprising force said.

"We urge the government to give us weapons to serve our country," said Safar Mohammad, a member of the uprising force.

The force will receive the equipment that it needs to support troops, provincial governor Muhammad Omar Zwak said.
