KABUL -- Heavy snowfall and freezing weather killed 27 Afghan children, all under age five, in a remote northern district, officials said Thursday, with fears of a rising death toll, AFP reported Thursday January 26.

Roads in Darzab, Jawzjan Province, were blocked by 50cm of snow.

The children's deaths occurred in the past two or three days, district governor Ramatullah Hashar told AFP.
