Afghan forces kill 50 militants in Helmand, Farah

KABUL -- Security forces killed at least 50 militants in Helmand and in various northern provinces, officials said Wednesday (March 1).

The Afghan air force carried out strikes in Khanshin District, Helmand Province, early Wednesday, killing at least 20 militants, the Ministry of Defence said, according to Afghanistan Times.

Counter-insurgency operations in Farah Province killed at least 30 Taliban militants, Farah Police Chief Brig. Gen. Abdul Maroof Polad said Wednesday, according to Pajhwok Afghan News.

Six police officers were killed -- two in fighting in Farah, two in fighting in Badghis Province, and two by a land mine in Faryab Province -- said officials. The fighting in Badghis and the roadside bombing in Faryab both took place Wednesday.
