JALALABAD, Afghanistan -- Afghan troops have killed at least 222 "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) militants throughout Nangarhar Province, officials said Monday (March 6), according to media.

Troops killed 189 ISIL members in Haska Mina and Kot districts in the past four weeks, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said, according to Afghanistan Times.

The forces cleared more than 10 villages and destroyed a weapon cache, added the MoD.

Troops killed 33 more ISIL militants, including three would-be suicide bombers, in various parts of Achin District late Sunday (March 5), said the provincial police in a statement Monday, according to Khaama Press.

ISIL on Sunday used social media to publicise two atrocities, reported Khaama Press.

Photos posted by ISIL showed the bodies of two Nangarhar Province men whom ISIL had killed.
