Paktika governor goes door to door to promote schooling

Staff Report

PAKTIKA, Afghanistan -- Paktika Governor Ilyas Wahdat has begun a door-to-door campaign to urge parents to send their children to school, Khaama Press reported Monday (March 20).

The governor began his campaign in Mata Khan District Sunday (March 19), said officials, adding that he and other door-knocking officials will reach other districts too.

Authorities hope to convince families who are keeping children seven and under out of school, the officials said.

Paktika's goal is to increase the number of schoolchildren this year to 20,000.
