New special operation against ISIS starts in Nangarhar

Staff Report

JALALABAD -- Afghan security forces launched a special operation against the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) in two districts of Nangarhar Province, said provincial governor's spokesman Ataullah Khogyani, Khaama Press reported Thursday (June 15).

Troops will use air strikes and a ground offensive to eliminate ISIS insurgents in Chaparhar and Pacheragam districts, he said.

The operation is especially meant to thwart any ISIS expansion after the militant group captured the caves in Tora Bora.

Another offensive against ISIS, Operation Hamza, is proceeding in Kot and Achin districts.
