KABUL -- A suicide bomber blew himself up near an Afghan intelligence convoy Thursday (July 26) in Kabul, killing at least five Afghans and wounding six, police said.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack on the National Directorate of Security (NDS), which police spokesman Hashmat Stanikzai said happened at 5am local time.

Four members of the NDS and a civilian were killed, while five NDS personnel and a civilian were wounded.

The attacker was "most likely" driving a vehicle carrying explosives, Stanikzai added.

Separately, NDS personnel arrested a suspected would-be suicide bomber in Parwan Province, Khaama Press reported Wednesday (July 25).

Security forces arrested the suspect, identified as Khudai Nazar, in Jabal Siraj District based on an intelligence tip-off, said an NDS statement.

The suspect confessed that he was preparing to carry out a suicide attack in Kabul city, the statement said.
