Pence, Ghani discuss Afghan security situation, peace process

WASHINGTON -- President Ashraf Ghani and US Vice President Mike Pence discussed the situation in Afghanistan in a phone call Tuesday (August 28), the White House said in a statement.

"The vice president and President Ghani discussed the current security situation in Afghanistan and efforts to initiate a peace process," according to the statement.

The two sides also discussed the impact of the US strategy in Afghanistan and in South Asia announced last year, it added.
