7 nations sanction Taliban officials and their Iranian supporters

RIYADH -- All seven member nations of the Terrorist Financing Targeting Centre (TFTC) Tuesday (October 23) sanctioned nine Taliban officials and their Iranian supporters, the US Department of the Treasury said in a statement.

Two Iranian officials from the Quds Force, a special forces unit of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), were among those sanctioned for providing support for the Taliban militants, said the statement.

"Iran’s provision of military training, financing, and weapons to the Taliban is yet another example of Tehran’s blatant regional meddling and support for terrorism," said US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin in the statement.

"Iran’s support to the Taliban stands in stark violation of United Nations Security Council Resolutions and epitomises the regime’s utter disregard for fundamental international norms," he said.
