KABUL -- President Ashraf Ghani Monday (October 29) met with Gen. Joseph Votel, commander of US Central Command (CENTCOM), in Kabul for talks on parliamentary elections and the peace process, Ghani's office said in a statement Monday.
"General Votel praised ANDSF [Afghan National Defence and Security Forces] for their extraordinary efforts to tackle threats against the Wolesi Jirga elections and reaffirmed that [the] US will remain Afghanistan's ally and strategic partner," said the statement.
"We welcome any effort that leads to intra-Afghan negotiations and sustainable peace in Afghanistan," the statement added, quoting Ghani.
