HERAT -- An Afghan National Army helicopter carrying 25 people crashed in Farah Province Wednesday (October 31), killing everyone on board, officials said.

The helicopter crashed because of "bad weather" in Anar Dara District, Farah provincial governor's spokesman Naser Mehri said.

Provincial council member Dadullah Qani said the helicopter hit a mountain peak in poor weather en route to Herat Province.

The Taliban claimed its militants brought it down.

Among the dead were the deputy army corps commander for western Afghanistan and chairman of the Farah provincial council.
