Kabul to send delegation to Jeddah for peace talks with Taliban

KABUL -- The Afghan government plans to send a delegation to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where US and Taliban representatives are scheduled to negotiate on peace in Afghanistan, TOLOnews reported Wednesday (December 26).

The timing of the Jeddah meeting has not yet been confirmed.

Although the Taliban refused to sit down with Afghan government representatives in Abu Dubai to discuss peace, Kabul sees the Jeddah meeting as an opportunity to reach out to the Taliban and put an end to the Afghan war.

"Whenever there is a need for it, we will send our delegation and will express our intention," said Fraidoon Khazon, the deputy spokesman for Afghan Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah.
